Atlantic Publisher Honoured with Order of Canada
We would like to Congratulate Breton Books Publisher, Ron Caplan, who has been honoured with the Order of Canada. A Pittsburgh native, Caplan moved to Wrecks Cove, Cape Breton in 1971 and from 1972 to 1999, published Cape Breton’s Magazine (available free online at www.capebretonsmagazine.com). In 1986, he started Breton Books, publishing history, folklore and fiction, including the most recently published title, Sister to Courage by Wanda Robson, Viola Desmond’s sister.
Also recognized were Dartmouth director, actor and playwright Mary Vingoe, named an officer, who co-founded Ship’s Company Theatre in Parrsboro in 1984 and Eastern Front Theatre in Dartmouth in 1993, and Halifax genealogist Terrence Punch, named a member, who founded the Genealogical Association of Nova Scotia in 1982 and has written four books on Irish immigrants to Atlantic Canada and is writing two similar books on Scottish immigrants.
